Ypsilanti was laid out and named in honor of the Greek Patriot Demetrius Ypsilanti. Founded in 1825, formed as a Village in 1832, and chartered as a city in 1858. The City of Ypsilanti, just East of Ann Arbor, is nestled on the banks of the mighty Huron River and offers a broad range of cultural, artistic and educational treasures.
Ypsilanti provides plenty of free parking - both on street parking as well as large public parking lots just North or South of Michigan Avenue.

Ypsilanti was Founded in 1825 on an old Native American trail, camping site and burial ground. Named for the Greek Patriot General Demetrius Ypsilanti, Ypsilanti is home to Eastern Michigan University one of the 50 largest universities in the country. The Downtown Business District is one of the largest Historical Districts in the United States

The Downtown Association of Ypsilanti is a proud member of CoPAC, the Community Policing Action Council. CoPac is made up of 17 neighborhood associations which cover most of the City of Ypsilanti.
